Past Events

August 12-14 – International Youth Day Events

For International Youth Day in August, Give a Beat and partners hosted events across the country to raise awareness and funds for mentoring and music programs for youth. Our events were in concert with the United Nations International Youth Day campaign which “aims to remind the public of the importance of youth as a stage in life and it is celebrated all over the world.”

Once again, the Tropical Boat Party served as the "anchor" event. Other cities included New Orleans, Raleigh, and San Diego, plus many more. With your help we can break the vicious cycle of youth incarceration in our country.

May 27-29 Detroit - Movement Festival

We had a blast at Movement Festival 2017! Proceeds from our “I Give a Beat” bar and sponsorships for the Give a Beat Giant Jenga competition went toward support for our essential music and mentoring programs for youth in Los Angeles and Detroit!

Check out the photos of the artists who participated in our game including Soul Clap, Francesca Lombardo, Sampled Detroit and Dirtybird DJs.

Huge thanks to all our awesome bartending volunteers!

May 18-21 Durham - Moogfest

Mission: Grow a global community of futurists who explore emerging sound technologies and design radical instruments for change. Give a Beat collaborated with DanceGruv Radio at Moogfest 2017 to host the Music & Tech: Tools to Fight Mass Incarceration panel featuring representatives from Drug Policy Alliance, Building Beats, North Carolina Commission on Racial and Ethnic Disparities in the Criminal Justice System, The Foreign Exchange, Prison Reform Movement & Prison Legal News. Our panel discussion covered how music and technology are being used to address, fight, and recover from the devastating impacts of mass incarceration.

May 4-8 San Diego: West Coast Weekender

West Coast Weekender was a great event and we were graced with fantastic artists and activists who joined our panel, hosted by Lauren Segal, "Give a Beat! Change the System!" Shout out to Rich Medina, Stacy Kidd, Rescue Poetix, Morgan Humphrey of Drug Policy Alliance, Jeremy Stock of The California Innocence Project, and Joey Nunez Estrada Jr. for their participation and invaluable insights!
