DJ Minx is a Detroit native. She began her DJ career at The Music Institute, where some of Detroit’s leading DJs helped hone her skills. For two years, Minx hosted Deep Space Radio, an electronic music show on Detroit’s WGPR radio station, and later became a resident of world-renowned Club Motor. She performed at the first Detroit Electronic Music Festival and has since played gigs in cities across the globe.
In 1996, Minx founded Women on Wax, a collective of female DJs from the Detroit area. Since then, she’s worked with promoters and DJs across the country to solidify the career of several top female DJs and songstresses.
In 2001, Minx established her own record label called Women On Wax Recordings, where she releases both her own work and local talents’ work. Currently on the Connect Bookings roster, Detroit’s “First Lady of Wax” is going strong after nearly three decades as a DJ.
Since October 2017, she’s hosted House of Minx on Red Bull Radio. She was also recently named one of the 20 Women Who Shaped the History of Dance Music by Mixmag and one of the “best house music DJs of all time” by TimeOut New York.
Minx spreads her love for all creatures through her animal activism and mentoring young people across the country. In 2017, she volunteered at Girls Rock Detroit summer music camp for young girls. She has also supported Give a Beat at Movement Detroit and other fundraising events.
“I support Give a Beat because they are big on supporting our youth and up-and-coming entrepreneurs. There is always an event to support others, and I appreciate that.”
