Joshua Michaels—aka Iz—is a DJ, music producer, web developer, traveler, and coffee lover from Chicago. He’s DJed and produced for 32 years, playing everything from downtempo to techno. He loves dub reggae, soul, hip-hop, disco, and house music. He’s toured the world solo and with his compadre Diz (as Iz & Diz), traveling to London, Barcelona, Belgium, Australia, and all over North America.
Joshua runs a record label called Vizual Records, as an outlet for his own music and as a springboard for up-and-coming artists. Established producers have also released on the label, including Derrick Carter, Chez Damier, Pépé Bradock, Jay Tripwire, Russ Gabriel, and more.
Joshua has also produced hundreds of tracks and released on some of the most respected dance music labels, including Balance, Prescription, OM, and more. His latest album, Versions, was released in February 2018 on his Vizual imprint.
Iz has supported Give a Beat both as a developer and a DJ. He feels it’s important to be involved with and give back to the community. His studio works with many nonprofits and supports them through reduced-rate or pro-bono work.
“Give a Beat's youth programs are targeted to make real, substantive change to reduce mass incarceration and recidivism. These are issues that the dance music community should care about.”
